Face/Off OR "French Face Transplant"?
What do you call two Scientologists squaring off with one another to the death in a rather cheezy but suspenseful movie? You would call it "Face/Off" the action packed but still cheezy, film from a few years ago starring Nicholas Cage and John Travolata. Moments of it were pretty creepy too! Take for instance the surgery itself...switching Travolta's face with Cage's? Who in their right mind would want to do that? Not only having one of their faces but, being able to tear it off like a big fruit rollup?! I thought it was kind of silly and said that, "Heck, it's only a movie and it's something that could never happen...EVER!" Well, I was wrong. At least now we know why France left the U.S. high and dry out in Iraq...they were busy bringing science fiction to reality as they just developed a way to transplant a face! I'm sure this will only be used for folks with severe facial burns or deformities but, it's still kind of scary knowing that a loved one that just died could be brought back to life so to speak- That's something that would literally make me jump out of my skin. They say it's just like making a prop for a horror movie. The whole kit and caboodle (eyelids, nostrils and lips) are all in one piece, like a Halloween mask. Nerve endings are attached and the victim will then be forced to stay on medication for the rest of his/her life so the body doesn't reject the face. Not only is it a time consuming operation lasting nearly 20 hours, but it is VERY ecpensive. So much money that even the people holding the press conference laughed and quickly changed the subject when asked about the cost! I guess Blue Cross and Blue Shield won't cover this under my insurance! In any case, good grief! Is there any thing that science can't do. I can see the ads in the rear of the magazine: "Face off: stop playing hockey with that warped puck face of yours!" THAT'S the way I see things today!
