AUTHOR: Dave Sypniewski DATE: Friday, November 25, 2005 ----- BODY: SNEAK PEEK: It's official! After years of bad scripts, several Directors, and a dozen actors who passed on the lead role, "Superman Returns" is currently filming. Although the movie won't be released until June of '06, a special "short" version of the movie's trailer is being released over the weekend(new Superman above left) to stir up interest in the franchise once again. Now, I don't want to Jinx the project however, perhaps this is one movie they should have let alone. There's something about the role of Superman that is cursed and the new "Man of Steel" by the name of Brandon Rouch (whoever he is) ought to start looking over his shoulders because death may already be following a few steps behind him. Back in the 1950's, Superman made a nice transition from the comics and radio to television. Although it wasn't on very long, it was long enough for the original George Reeves who didn't handle fame too well and commited suicide. Another actor briefly took over the role, but made such a lasting impression that no information is available. The most famous of them all is Christopher Reeve (no relation to George). We all know what happened to him...they milked 4 movies out of him when there should have only been two. When Richard Pryor is given a role as the villain, it's time to close up shop. The movies started on a high note and finished in the trash. There wasn't even a Blockbuster Video in business yet to rescue Superman IV from it's early death! Sadly, that was the last film ever made by Christopher Reeve before his paralysis that resulted in his death last year. So, how is the new Superman going to die? Car accident? Drug overdose? Suicide? Murder? It's coming soon and even he can't stop his nemisis "The Grim Reaper". The project was almost off the ground two years ago when Nicholas Cage was working together with Tim Burton...that was probably a good career move for Cage who is a die hard Superman fan. Let's face it, the guy wasn't ready to die so both guys backed out and they got a generic actor for the part. I'm sure the movie will be a big hit. It has a lot of Hollywood heavyweights in the cast...but as I watch the trailer over the weekend on TV or the Internet and see the actor who bears an uncanny resemblance to Christopher Reeve, I can't help but wonder how many more movies will they force on us, and how long before the new guy will become simply a question in the 2010 edition of Trivial Pursuit?! -------- Squealing Pig WORLDWIDE!: SPECIAL REPORT: How will the new Superman die?
