The day after Ray: "I feel like a $2 whore!"
The gang sits down for a group photo during the show's 8th season. Everyone is all smiles! You know what's funny? I thought that if ANYONE could pull off a final episode without the bullshit, it would have been Ray Romano. That show went for 9 years and there was guaranteed at least a few laughs in every episode no matter what. So, who's idea was it to get sappy on the last day and do a show around Ray dying for 30 seconds? Of course, this allowed the whole family time to reflect on Ray as he is. No jokes. No funnies. All it showed was the love that the whole family has for one another despite all their teasing and picking on one another. That truly made the show come full circle because as the camera pulls back at the end, we see the family sitting around the kitchen table with Ray in the middle. Everyone talking to him at the same time before the picture fades to black. So, "Everybody Loves Raymond" for real. I guess it was OK to end the show like that, but considering there NEVER was a serious moment on that show without a laugh to back it up, this was truly bizarre. A part of me wanted just a regular episode. They had an hour previous to the last 1/2 hour to cry, laugh, weep, and sob like real humans do. I felt cheated in a way. I've been watching so long, and this is all I get? There was nothing funny about it. This was like watching an episode of "The Walton's". On a scale of 1-10, 10 being the best...I give this final episode a 5. Not bad, but not that great either. They had 9 years to prepare for yesterday and it seems like they just recycled scripts from other TV shows and scotch taped them together. Maybe there were too many parties and that's what they did?! One thing is for certain though. If they even kidded around talking about doing a reunion show, they better tape Peter Boyle's part quick. He looked sick, like he was about to collapse. Not only on the last episode, but when the gang was making the rounds on Regis and Kelly and a few others. Maybe he's sick. Maybe he's just sad to see it all end. Whatever the case, it doesn't look like he'll be with us much longer. In any case, I wish him well, along with the rest of the cast. You won't see "Survivor" on for 9 years!
