Ariva Dercci Raymond!
After a nice long run, tonight's the night that "Everybody Loves Raymond" bids a fond farewell and springs into syndication where in a few years TV Land or Nick At Night will beat it and clobber it to death in reruns (That is, unless TBS doesn't do that starting on Tuesday). Once again, this show has proven my hypothesis of women not being funny. Without Ray, Brad Garrett, and Peter Boyle carrying the weight, the show would have sunk quicker than the Titanic however, it's a good thing it's ending when it is, because it was headed in that direction anyway. I guess Ray is going to fall off the face of the earth now for 10 years like Jerry Seinfeld did. It takes somewhere in the ballyard of a decade to count that kind of loot before you can start doing comedy again and making appearances on Letterman and Leno to promote a new project. I'm sure Ray will find time to squeeze in some voicework for a cartoon, but until then he lays low. Brad Garrett (Robert) is already hitting the road and doing the comedy club circuit going back to his roots. I read in the paper the other day that he did a show here last week and the audience left at the end not knowing what to make of it. I guess there were some senior citizens that showed up expecting to see Ray's brother Robert and instead got Brad and his act full of four letter words. There was at least one five letter word spoken by that part of the audience: Shock! Patricia Heaton (Debra) is no stranger to Chicago with her Jewel commercials that get played around the clock. I liked her until she stuck her nose in the business of that woman in Florida with the feeding tube. She'll be in a new comedy in a few months on ABC. Until then, you can see her kiss ass with all the employees of Jewel as she and her evening gown thank everyone for all their help...Oh boy! (yawn) Peter Boyle and Doris Roberts (Frank and Marie) will probably call it quits, or maybe do some goofy commercials for Denny's like George and Weezie Jefferson did. Besides this show, Peter will always be remembered as the monster in "Young Frankenstein." Good movie. He was also in "Taxi Driver" with Robert DeNiro playing a bit part. Doris Roberts was in "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation" Lets face it...None of these people need to work again, except for the three kids on the show. They're all brother and sister in real life and have their college tuitions unless they have some goofy parents that will "hold" the money for them until they turn 18 and then it will be long spent by then! This show will be missed in my opinion...Now they have an extra 1/2 hour to tack on to "Big Brother" or "Survivor" and that means I turn off the TV 1/2 hour earlier! Everybody wins from Raymond!
