A BIG confusing mess of celluloid!
I won't be sleeping on the cold cement for these tickets.
This is probably the first of a few articles about "The Revenge of the Sith." Not because I'm anxious to see it, but because I can't figure out what all the fuss is about. George Lucas has reached the end of the line with his LucasFilm and THX surround sound. Now I saw "The Phantom Menace" a few years ago. They were selling tickets about a week in advance. The movie was mediocre at best. Maybe my expectations were too high, but truth be known, those three movies from the 1970's were in a lot of ways, better. For one thing, they didn't have all the fancy computer generated special effects, and considering what they had to work with, they did a heck of a job. There's nothing left to "wow" me as far as Star Wars goes, so when I heard that George Lucas might consider selling the rights to another Director tor three more movies, I was stunned. Apparently, Lucas had made some very rough drafts in the 1970's for 7,8, and 9 and later scrapped it in favor of the 1, 2, and 3 trilogy. I wrote a paper on the guy several years ago and he had said in an article that he wouldn't do any more of those movies because by the time they're completely written, he'll be dead. Besides, he said he didn't want to push these movies down peoples throats. Too late Mr. Lucas! I have an attic full of toys from years ago. They are in a big box, and considering the attic is a few feet closer to the sun, by now they're probably all melted together into one big plastic block. Some of those things were over $100, and back in the day, you could pay for a ticket on the concorde with that kind of money. Once again, history repeats itself. The little whippersnappers want all the toys, so based on that idea, there may one day be three more. If there ever is, I just hope it won't be like the current trilogy. This thing is one big confusing mess! I 'd like to invite Mr. Lucas over for tea and krumpets and have him sit down with me for a screening of the movies and explain to me just what in the hell is going on! I think I'll wait for "Revenge of the Sith" to come to DVD. Only problem is, do I watch the widescreen, Director's cut, Special Edition, Special Collectors Edition, or the two minutes that were edited out? What a marketing guru George Lucas is...and THAT'S the way I see it!
