AUTHOR: Dave Sypniewski DATE: Thursday, April 21, 2005 ----- BODY: The NASA space program is back on track, at least in the new GM commercials! Posted by Hello I had always thought that the NASA space program was a government run and regulated organization. If that's the case, why on God's good green earth would NASA allow footage of a space shuttle mission to be used in General Motors new "Hot Button" ad campaign? As part of the OnStar feature you can get on your car, if you need help, directions, or the car breaks down, all you need to do is press the button near the visor and immediately someone will be sent to your aide. This uses the Global Positioning System or GPS, which Einstein first developed for the military so YOU can be found ANYWHERE! According to what I saw on the GM website, if you go to any GM car dealership and take the car for a test ride, you are allowed to press the button once. If you win, GM will come and find you and present you with a new car as the prize. As far as the commercial goes, the website invited people to send their questions, comments, and hate mail in an e-mail. I had to address the TV commercials. I went through a long process of filling in all the fields on a long form as well as take a mandatory survey about when I'm buying my next car...how about NEVER. we have a baby on the way and a car is the least of our problems! Finally, I made it to the blank part where I could write. I told them the contest itself is a great idea however, the commercials are not. The space shuttle program has been grounded for a few years after Colubia exploded. A new mission is expected in May, but that isn't even 100% for sure at this point. So how would you like it if you were family of one of the people killed this time or the last time and GM uses a takeoff in an ad? (Now here's the kicker) I told them I taped the commercial and transferred it to my pc where I was able to enlarge the shuttle itself to see that it says "Columbia" on the side. I told them they should probably blur that out or a lot of people will be angry and maybe get an attorney. Now, I never did this, but I told them I did. Everything went great until I pressed "send." An error message popped up saying "Host error. Your form cannot be submitted at this time. Please submit again later." Everything got lost. I guess the joke was on ME! Divine intervention? Don't know however, THAT'S the way I see it! -------- Squealing Pig WORLDWIDE!: Now THIS commercial pushes MY "Hot Button"!!!
