AUTHOR: Dave Sypniewski DATE: Wednesday, June 15, 2005 ----- BODY: As the saying goes, "If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is!" It sounds like a pretty good idea on paper...you fly in or out of O'Hare Airport on United Airlins and if there's any delay, due to weather or otherwise and it's more than half an hour, they will turn around and give you 500 frequent flier miles. Now, whoever came up with this promotional gimmick must really want to see United dead and buried. It was only a few weeks ago that their union employees got screwed with their pensions and were forced to give up money from their retirement in order to rescue the bankrupt air carrier. Now, all of a sudden, UA has got the cash to throw around for flight delays? It seems the employees and retirees got screwed again. This is an accident waiting to happen, UA will be passing out those miles like penny candy. There isn't a few hours that go by where a flight won't be delayed...ESPECIALLY at O'Hare. The whole idea is, you fly with them and then when you're ready to cash in, they'll either be completely out of business or won't have the money. Tell you what, they're willing to go the extra mile and bend over backwards to get you to fly again? Bring back the free meals! Peanuts and pretzels ain't gonna cut it. They can probably fill an entire plane with pre-packaged meals for everyone for a few hundred bucks. What happened to being able to order McDonald's on United? That didn't last long. I don't want those miles dangled in front of me like a carrot in front of a race horse...he keeps running after it faster and faster but never gets the reward! I also don't want to have to spend an arm and a leg at one of the restaurants in the terminal. The last time I checked, I was able to get two large pizza's at Pizza Hut by my house for $10. At O'Hare, $10 will get you a personal pan pizza> I want United to give me something NOW! ...Sad thing is, I probably will get the same as you: The shaft. THAT'S the way I see it for today! -------- Squealing Pig WORLDWIDE!: United's "frequent flier" miles...don't try cashing them in!
