AUTHOR: Dave Sypniewski DATE: Wednesday, June 01, 2005 ----- BODY: Sir Bob Geldof looks tired and worn out...will he still be alive for "Live Aid?" I've been scratching my head all weekend long over the fact that there's going to be another "Live Aid" concert on July 2nd. I thought this was going to be "Live Aid 2", but was shocked to hear that this will be the 8th! Where have I been all these years, sleeping? The only one I remember is the original one from 1984 or whenever it was. That particular concert threw Bruce Springsteen and Michael Jackson into the spotlight when some of the guys got together at the end of the day and recorded "We are the world" and a few months later recorded again for the song "Do they know it's Christmas?" Let's also not forget the song "Dancing in the streets" which David Bowie and Mick Jagger did in one take! Some memorable moments came to fruition at that event. I don't know anything about the concerts after that...what corner of the earth were they on? Now, Sir Bob Geldof is at it again and hoping lightning will strike twice. I'm a bit of a skeptic this time however, for one thing, where will it air? MTV had it on all day and night in 1984...you won't find stuff like that on there anymore. God forbid they should pre-empt "The Real World" or "Road Rules" for a day, and MTV2 isn't much better either! Also, Geldof likes to plan these things at the last minute, and trying to round up some of these groups to play five cities around the world is going to be tricky. Heck, some of them have a history of showing up three hours late or not at all. Geldof tried to throw an all day concert to benefit 9/11 and that fizzled out. I want to know who THIS concert is for! Are we still helping Ethiopia like we were in the 80's? With all the money they made back then, that place should be full of Kroger's, Wal-marts, and McDonald's right now. Like the late Sam Kinison once joked, "You guys live in a desert! Nothing grows in the desert! If you're hungry, move to where the food is!" I don't know how this event will turn out, but if that's who we're helping again, I suggest a couple cargo planes do a fly over and make it rain condoms over there. If it's still hotter than hell and there's no food, stop bringing more kids into that mess! THAT'S the way I see it! -------- Squealing Pig WORLDWIDE!: "Live Aid 8?" Where did 2-7 go?
