An End To Coffee And Donuts!
As we gear up for "The Year in Review", let us pause to remember two stars who have ironically, found fame through a combination of a police officer's dream: Donuts and Coffee. The Dunkin' Donuts man Michael "time to make the donuts" Vale, and Vincent "I'm slow because I just switched to Sanka" Schiavelli have passed away. Vale, died at home at 82 years of age. He appeared on Broadway, on television, and in a few movies too. He'll best be remembered as the man that crawls out of bed at three in the morning to make the donuts. I write this section in blue, because Mr. Vale would've wanted it that way. One would never see an empty parking lot at a Dunkin' Donuts as long as the "boys in blue" were on duty. Unfortunately, Mr. Vale's collaberations with "DD" had two strikes against it: 1) An employee who's someone other than a Pakastani, 2) Showing up to work with Adolph Hitler's mustache. It should be no surprise that not long after "Schindler's List" hit the theaters and Starbucks moved in on one side and Krispy Kreme on the other, Mr. Vale's career ended quicker than a double chocolate latte and eclair in the morning. They dug Mr. Vale's grave, but it can't be sealed until there's 11 more dead employees to put in. No body though...Mr. Vale wanted to be cremated and those sneaky S.O.B.'s at "DD" accidentally mixed it in with the coffee they ground this morning at SOME Dunkin' Donuts. Be careful! ...If there was ever a character as funny as Ray Walston was playing "Mr. Hand" in Fast Times at Ridgemont High, it was Vincent Schiavelli playing "Mr. Vargas". One of the best moments was when Jeff Spicolli tagged along on the field trip to the morgue. Mr. Schiavelli also appeared in The People vs. Larry Flint and a couple of episodes CSI. In another ironic twist, on the day he died, Schiavelli's comedic role in Fast Times got accepted into the National Film Registry. Mr. Schiavelli died at his home in Tuscany at 57 from lung cancer. I guess there were too many smokes and not enough Sanka in Italy!
