Ladies and Germs, Harvey Illinois' very own Tom Dreeson
Now, I don't know where to start with this gentleman. Luckily, we don't get to see the man too often however, this weekend is a different story. Jerry Lewis will make sure to pencil Dreeson in between "The Flying Karishmikov Brothers" and one of those MDA films that tug at your heartstrings. Let me tell you about Dreeson...He's the guy that bragged about opening up for Sinatra, Robert Goulet and Steve Lawrence. Yet, as he strolls down the street, he remains unnoticed and is trying to revive vaudeville comedy to the likes of George Burns, Bob Hope, and heck, even Don Rickles. But I'm sure Rickles would call him a putz too. But really, lets not forget Sinatra. Dreeson had him on speed dial. Harvey, a few towns away from me is mostly known for it's movie exposure: The Blues Brothers, where parts of it were filmed in the condemned shopping mall. Dreeson doesn't figure into any of that. Instead, he likes to always mention how his neighborhood was black and full of thugs, and the only way he could save his ass was to tell jokes. Several weeks ago, Harvey, IL. decided they were going to give him a star on their walk of fame (they really do have one). I think they put him somewhere in-between the O'Jays and Luther the crack dealer. The Mayor invited Dreeson and rolled out the red carpet as he proclaimed the day, "Tom Dreeson Day." Well, the Mayor was there along with a bunch of chirping crickets...that was it. He went to go check up on his boyhood home, and much to his dismay, it was condemned. When you see him on the MDA Telethon this weekend with his JC Penny tuxedo talking about the good people in Harvey...Just remember what I said and realize he hasn't lived there in 50 years. Mention Dreeson in Harvey and not a single soul will know who in the hell you're talking about! Only good thing about this weekend is that a few hours of the MDA Telethon goes to the Katrina relief fund where I will link everyone for a while...Peace. www.redcross.org .
