So, what's the REAL joke???
Penn Jillette is taking responsibility for what may be the most profanity laced movie of all time...Of course, the movie is "The Aristocrats" which has generated a lot of buzz lately. The film is shot on video and centers around a dirty joke. What makes this thing special is the fact that a number of comedians who you would usually associate with "family entertainment" have kicked things up a notch and let the four letter words fly. Depending on what you read, this joke has either been around since the 1920's or created by Penn Jillette. There's also many variations hence, the movie with all the comedians telling their versions of the joke. I first became interested in the history of the joke several weeks ago while watching late night television. It's been said that it's so dirty that Andrew "Dice" Clay would squirm in his seat. Rather than go see the movie (if it's even playing around here; it's in limited run), I decided to do my homework and see what all the fuss is about. That's where Google came in handy. I must admit, this is a joke that easily adapts to fit the passage of time. All you have to do is plug in some famous names or historical figures and...presto! You're ready to go. Having said that, I read and read and kept on reading, joke after joke after joke and didn't come across anything which resembled a punch line. What's more, I still don't know how the thing got started however, it's safe to say that Penn Jillette DIDN'T come up with it. Maybe it's funny if I actually heard someone tell it rather than my reading it. It kind of reminds me of the little kid in school who used to say, "poopie" and all the kids laughed. It's a lot of swearing just for the sake of swearing. I just don't get it..."What's the name of the act?" It's called "The Aristocrats" and I'd probably get a bigger kick out of Deuce Bigelow than this. THAT'S the way I see it!
