Hershey, PA slips to #2 as New Orleans becomes new #1 "Chocolate City"
New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin has a hell of a lot of nerve opening up his big mouth after many of you opened up your wallets and homes to people who had their lives wrecked after hurricane Katrina. Nagin was quick to put a spin on his remarks from yesterday when he mentioned in a rather emotional speech that God punished everyone with that nasty hurricane, and the city will rebuild itself into what it was before veering off track: A "Chocolate City". Don't worry Hershey, PA, the New Orleans Board of Tourism won't be serving up candy bars and hot cocoa at the first rest area after crossing the Louisiana Border the same way you get a glass of orange juice when you cross the line into Florida. This clown is saying that New Orlean's roots are with the black population. The nasty white folks who visit there around this time of year have tarnished the squeaky clean streets, and that just isn't the way it was supposed to be. First of all, I'd teach the folks down there a lesson in the right way to say, "Thank You". If I had given a donation and it wasn't too late, I'd put a stop payment on my check. It's funny how in just a matter of months, Nagin has gone from asking for help to saying, "We don't want you white folks down here, but we'll still gladly accept your checks!" He is right about one thing however, and that's that God is punishing all the people that live there. Not so much that the people did anything wrong...God is trying to tell them that well, for starters New Orleans sits in a basin that's well below sea level. If you dig a big hole in a sandy beach by the ocean and crawl into it, sooner or later you're going to be up to your ass in water! It's times like this that I wish I was still in Carbondale. You see, Amtrak made one last stop there before heading off to New Orleans. When Mardi Gras rolled around each year, that train was packed with college kids that were picked up all along the way from Chicago to Southern Illinois who gladly pumped money into the N.O. economy by visiting restaurants, hotels, and bars. I never went there, but if I had plans to go, I'd cancel. Let's just see how things go without white people attending all the festivities! The thing about a very passionate, emotional speech from Nagin is, you can back pedal and put a spin on what was said, but the damage is already done. Folks, you need to boycott New Orleans this year. Ladies, you want to get crazy and lift up your shirts? C'mon over and I'll throw you some beads! Seriously though, not only were Nagin's comments in bad taste, he chose to get pissed off on Martin Luther King Day...so much for racial harmony eh? MLK was probably spinning in his grave. THAT'S the way I see it today!
