Tuning into XM Radio and Stroh's at the ballpark...
SPECIAL EDITION: THURSDAY NIGHT..
So, are you lucky enough to have World Series tickets for this weekend? What did you do to get them? Pay a few hundred dollars? A few thousand dollars? An arm, a leg, or a kidney as someone had up for auction on eBay in exchange for a ticket? Well, no matter how you slice it, your wallet or purse will be a little bit lighter. That's OK though because if you attend Saturday's game, you'll recieve a special present at the front gate. It's supposed to be "top secret" however, I've got the inside track. No bobble-heads, inflatable bats, or crummy autographed Ozzie Guillen photo. EVERYONE will get a free XM satellite reciever. I really don't expect The Cell to have 30 semi-trailers backed up to the front door to hand out radios. I'd imagine you just get some kind of voucher to take to Best Buy and claim your gift. XM Radio is great. You can pick your favorite channel and go around the world with no static or commercials. You can also go around the world with your choice of the 5 or 6 stations that are available, and since this service is somewhat similar to your cellular phone, when you pick up the radio you'll have to pay an activation fee and sign a contract for a $12.95 monthly fee. Some gift eh? At least XM's competition SIRRIUS has more to choose from AND Howard Stern in January. The Sox may as well give away tickets to the moon because nobody will ever use them either...Here's the other thing that's really getting my goat the last couple of days: Thanks to Houston coming to Chicago Saturday, "Stroh's" beer sales and collectibles are flying of the charts. The Houston fans are so damn lazy, it's too much trouble to even say the name of their baseball team with the letter "A" in front. It's only ONE letter! I've been tempted to jump through the television screen and strangle one of these Cow-pokes that keep mentioning "The Stro's". One t-shirt printing place in Chicago is already catching heat for selling shirts with the "Stroh's" beer can and World Series Logo on it. Of course, some kid wore one to school and got sent home. The owner of the shop near Chicago has sold out of his supply and has already been told not to make anymore because both "Stroh's" and "The World Series" are registered trademarks. Good thing they only serve champagne and caviar at The Cell. BUT, if the Houston fans want "Stroh's" that bad, I recommend a drive down Stoney Island Ave. right around 95th Street.
