Lunch in the Oval Office and White Sox "Scarlett" Fever...
Taking advantage of some of his frequent flier miles, U2's Bono flew into the White House late this morning to meet with George W. Bush and talk politics, AIDS, malaria, poverty and everything else that's rotten in the world. CBS News says the two had a very productive meeting as they enjoyed each other's company over lunch. The meeting will air on a future episode of "Blind Date." When asked if they will possibly enjoy dinner the next time around, Mr. President gave the "thumbs up" and yelled out to reporters "Outback Steakhouse!" It was awkward as the two first met as shown above...President Bush gave Bono the once over and said, "I see you got all gussied up to come and see me" as a tired, worn out Bono looked as though he slept in his clothes, rolled out of bed without combing his hair, and threw on his trademark sunglasses. Here's hoping Bono didn't spill any of his chicken noodle soup on the President's rolodex! ...So, the big day is only a few days away. This isn't the way I wanted it to be BUT, Chicago and St. Louis would have been great. A few years ago the Sox had a slogan in their commercials that was "Sox fever...catch it!" This year however, it's more like Scarlett Fever. For the past several weeks, the White Sox have pushed their way into my life no matter if I like it or not. This virus is spreading quicker than AIDS and the Bird Flu put together. It's taken over my newspaper, television, and radio. Maybe that's a good thing because there hasn't been anything else going on in the news, which means no bad news. Every night I turn on the 10:00 News only to find that what I'm watching is really ESPN 3. There's reporters in front of Cellular Field, in the parking lot, the bar across the street, Downtown and in the locker rooms. That takes up nearly the first 15 minutes. Then, they do the same for Houston for another 10 minutes, and then the weather. From 10:30 to 10:35 I finally hear "Oh, by the way...Wilma is the strongest hurricane in history and about to pound Florida over the weekend." What happened to the good old days from a month ago when you'd turn on the News and hear about shootings, fires, earthquakes and floods? Unfortunately, I think all of Chicago has already caught the fever...even the loyal Cubs fans. That's a dirty shame!
