AUTHOR: Dave Sypniewski DATE: Tuesday, July 19, 2005 ----- BODY: There's all kinds of buzz surrounding "The Dukes of Hazzard" movie and unfortunately, none of it is too good. First of all, in what may be a coincidence, two stars of the movie have dropped new CD's. You've got Jessica Simpson doing her best (or worst) at covering the old Nancy Sinatra song which I suspect turns up in the movie. You've also got Willie Nelson. He's making the rounds doing press junkets for both the movie and his new CD. I don't know if Willie is using his noodle here. He's been an advocate of legalizing pot for years and his CD cover features a huge hemp plant smack dab in the middle! I don't know the connection between the two...perhaps he's suggesting moviegoer's get stoned in order to enjoy the movie. When "The Dukes" first aired on CBS way back when, I knew right away that I saw this somewhere before. The show is basically a cheap rip-off of "Smokey and The Bandit." I guess it makes perfect sense that Burt Reynold's should make an appearance in this movie. I kind of feel sorry for the cast of the old TV show because some 25 years after the General Lee made it's final jump over the creek, they just can't let go of the past. Tom Wopat is now a stage actor and John Schneider is on "Smallville" and also enjoys making really cheezy disaster movies for PAX. So far, John has made movies about a hurricane, a tornado, a snowstorm, and a flood. The tires on the General Lee just got slashed by another former cast member. The guy that played Cooter doesn't have too many nice things to say about the new movie. In between the county fairs, conventions, and car shows, this really busy guy had time to give his two cents on the subject. It's a no holds barred lashing out on why the movie shouldn't have been made in the first place. Visit his website to read the article: http://www.cootersplace.com . I wonder if he'd have a change of heart if he got a phone call about a cameo in the film? Time marches on...but not in the original Hazzard County. THAT'S the way I see it! Unfortunately, I won't be seeing it. -------- Squealing Pig WORLDWIDE!: Big trouble in Hazzard County...
